Press briefing on Security and Human Rights Nexus in the Philippines: Understanding the Modus Operandi of the Communist Terrorist Group With Ambassador Evan Garcia, Permanent Representative of the Philippines in Geneva and two resource persons from the Philippines government will join the briefing live from Manila.
Background The briefing will discuss the link between security and human rights in the political context of the Philippines as it relates to the activities of the terrorist organization Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) . The group has been in operation for over 50 years behind what is considered the longest-running and most brutal insurgency in Asia. It was declared as terrorist by the EU, US, UK, and other states. The group's leadership based in Europe has openly professed its weaponization of human rights as a means to advance its violent political agenda. A former commander of the group will expose how the group has sustained its armed operations on the ground, whilst using the cover of human rights. |
