Dear friends and colleagues,
The very best CONGRATULATIONS on the occasion of ACANU reaching 70 years since its foundation and sustaining transcendent activities with many great journalist correspondents from all over the world.
It came to my attention by friends who have seen the photo exhibit at the Palais des Nations that you are indeed celebrating this quaint age!
Indeed, year after year the Association of Correspondents to the office of the United Nations in Geneva maintains its position as one of the most important press spots worldwide.
Having joined the ACANU in 1987 -I was accredited to the UNOG press in March 1986- my professional life as a correspondent left me with a rich file of experiences when I left Switzerland at the end of the summer in 2014 and rendered my farewell to the ACANU.
During this long period I met incredible persons and yes, some few not very nice ones; attended an imposible to remember number of the two weekly press briefings by UNOG and others organised by ACANU itself; constant going and coming from Press II to the various Salles where UN events were taking place; witnessed important moments such as the signing of the Geneva Accords -a short lived peace settlement between Pakistan and Afghanistan- and the Commission of Human Rights becoming the Human Rights Council among many many others; press tours around the hot spots of the moment; plus some social events as well. Touching souvenirs and boxes and boxes full with notes and tapes and clippings of my work are waiting for me to decide what to do with it!
And so, let me wish all of you who I met at ACANU and still are around and to the new members, my sincere admiration and wishes for a good and successful continuation.
