Dr. Carl Emil Loosli-Usteri
Dr. Carl Emil Loosli-Usteri was a swiss journalist (1891 - 1977) who worked mainly for the Swiss daily newspaper Neue Zurcher Zeitung (NZZ) as a correspondent in the league of nations and then the United Nations Office at Geneva.
His articles and analysis were important references for many researchers in the german speaking countries.
He followed the birth of the United Nations and its different organisations, among others WHO, UNHCR and ILO, and observed its developments over the years.
One of his famous books is "History of the conference for the reduction and limitation of armaments, 1932-1934. A political world mirror.". The book reports on the disarmament conference, how it began, and its proceedings and considered until now as a reference for any research related to the history of the disarmament and how it changed through the years from the league of the nations to the United Nations.
Together with his wife Prof Margret Loosli-Usteri, he translated "Les États-Unis et la civilisation américaine, Paris, Centre de documentation universitaire, 1947" by the French academic, geographer and political writer André Siegfried.
He was a winner of several awards, medals as recognising for his journalistic work and donated some of these awards and medals to ACANU after his retirement.
He was one of the founders of ACANU 1949 and was elcted as member of the excutive committee and a president for the period 1955 - 1956.
